Brewery's Wake: Art in the Park on the Falls Road
The Falls Park in the heart of West Belfast was a hive of creative activity with the installation of community artist, Deborah Malcomson's, new pop-up project 'Brewery's Wake'. A tribute to the memory of the Bass Brewery on the Glen Road, the installation of an old irish wake house was the focus of a one day event in the park where local people were invited to come and remember the importance of the Bass Brewery and the part it played in the local community. Pupils from Newhill Afterschools, Coláiste Feirste, and Corpus Christi College worked alongside the artist to create the installation using artefacts, old staff photographs and artworks salvaged from the recently demolished brewery site. It was a great day and a pleasure, as alway, to work with Deirdre Mackle and the rest of the team at the Upper Springfield Road Development Trust.
